Experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to excavate dinosaur fossils at one of the richest fossil localities in the world. On the Guided Excavation program, you will work alongside an experienced paleontological technician to expose and collect 75-million-year-old fossils as part of an active bonebed excavation.
As part of the 2-day program, dig deeper into the techniques and methods of paleontological field work and learn about the scientific questions that your work is helping to answer as you return for a full second day of excavating in the quarry.
Find out firsthand why this exceptional landscape was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and contribute to ongoing research done by the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology.

Important Information
Program Meeting Point:
Dinosaur Provincial Park Visitor Centre. Transport to the dig site will be provided. Parking for the program is by the Service Centre, approximately a 2 minute walk from the Visitor Centre.
Ticket:
Tickets must be purchased AT LEAST 1 WEEK in advance online or at the Visitor Centre. No printed ticket required. Your guide will check you in at the program meeting point. All tours leave at the scheduled time. Late arrivals will not be refunded.
Age Restriction:
This program is NOT suitable for children under 14 years of age. Children under 14 years of age will not be allowed to participate and will not receive a refund. Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Be Prepared:
Please bring water (at least 2 litres/person required), lunch, snacks, sunscreen, hat, and insect repellent. We also recommend walking sticks, a camera and other weather appropriate clothing such as raingear and a jacket.
Footwear Requirement:
Sturdy hiking boots are required (no keens, crocs, sandals, or flip-flops allowed). Participants will NOT be able to join the program without appropriate footwear and refunds will not be given.
Weather Policy:
In the event that weather creates unsafe conditions (including high temperatures, rain, wet and slippery ground, unsafe roads, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants) programs may be cancelled and full refunds provided. Where possible, we will endeavor to offer a similar alternative program.
Cancellation Policy:
Participants may cancel up to 2 weeks before the event and receive a refund (minus the $5 booking fee). Programs cancelled by the participant with less than 2 weeks notice will not be refunded. Cancellations may be completed online at Sign In-Alberta Parks or by calling Alberta Parks Contact Center at 1-877-537-2757.
Park Location:
This program takes place in Dinosaur Provincial Park UNESCO World Heritage Site, 48 kilometres northeast of Brooks, Alberta (a 2 hour drive from Drumheller).

Dinosaur Provincial Park works in partnership with the Heritage Inn located in Brooks to offer accommodation and boxed lunches at a special rate for Guided Excavation guests. Information on bookings and rates will be attached to your confirmation email.

Accessibility

Amenities
The dig site is remote, with no access to washrooms or running water. Facilities will be available for use before departing in the morning.
Note: Some Tours may be available only from the Tour Park on a first-come-first-served basis. Arrival dates earlier than the online-reservation-window may also be available at the Tour Park.
