Overview

Description

William A. Switzer Provincial Park is located in the heart of the Alberta Northern Rockies. The 63 km park has five campgrounds along a chain of five lakes surrounded by tall forests of pine, spruce and aspen. The park offers year-round recreational opportunities to connect with nature. Favourite activities include relaxing at the beach, paddle boarding on the lakes, canoeing Jarvis Creek, water skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, snow shoeing, and cross-country skiing. During the summer months, families can join park interpreters for guided hikes and entertaining amphitheatre shows. A quaint visitor centre offers maps, brochures, and exhibits on the region, as well as a popular giftshop for those who love nature crafts, clothing, and books. Switzer Park is home to iconic Canadian wildlife including grizzly and black bears, wolves, cougars, moose, beavers, deer, eagles, and loons. Diverse hiking trails offer stunning view of the Rocky Mountains, upper foothills, kettle lakes, and montane forests. The Athabasca Lookout Trail is regarded as one of the most spectacular day hikes in the Northern Rockies.

The campgrounds in Switzer Park offer a wide range of camping experiences from rustic secluded sites to power hookups, showers, and flush toilets. Gregg Lake is the largest campground with 163 sites (83 sites with power, 11 sites with power and water, and 69 basic sites.) Gregg Lake offers a campground booth, firewood sales, playground, amphitheatre, potable water, showers, dumping station, and boat launch.

Jarvis Lake Campground offers 25 powered sites located on popular Jarvis Lake with a small beach, playground, vault toilets, dock and hand launch. The large day use area and public beach at Jarvis Lake is connected to the campground by a hiking trail.

Cache Campground contains 14 rustic forested sites with tent pads, pump water (not treated), camp shelter with wood stove, vault toilets and playground. Halfway and Graveyard are first come first served campgrounds provide 12 rustic campsites located in a small meadow near kettle lakes and Jarvis Creek.
