Overview

Description

Moonshine Lake Provincial Park was established in 1959 and protects 1100 hectares of mixed-wood boreal forest. The lake, formally known Mirage Lake, had a name change after two local men accidentally spilled their home-brewed moonshine into the water while transporting it around the lake.

Moonshine Lake offers a variety of spacious picnic and day use areas. The serene lake is popular for fishing, either from shore, the docks, or from non-gas powered boats. The network of trails winds you through the beautiful boreal forest and back around the lake. In winter the park offers over 10 km of cross-country ski trails or snowshoeing through the woods. Stocked rainbow and tiger trout can be fished year-round. Jack Bird Pond, located approximately 3.5 km SE of Moonshine Lake, provides excellent opportunities for bird watching.
